pledge to protect the ocean and marine animals

Join IFAW in working to protect 30% of the High Seas, a vital part of our blue planet by 2030. Tell us which three steps you’ll pledge today to support our beautiful ocean and the animals who call it home. Need some inspiration? You could pledge to...

Refuse unnecessary plastics: Every year, an estimated 8 millions tonnes of plastic enter our ocean. The UK contributes an estimated 1.7 million tonnes of plastic annually. Why not join a beach clean up too?

Report marine mammal strandings: Reporting strandings immediately to the authorities, could mean the difference between life and death. You can report strandings here: UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme » How to Report a Stranding (ukstrandings.org)

Limit express shipping and buy local: Express shipping means more ships travelling the ocean, which can lead to more ship strikes, higher carbon emissions and greater ocean noise pollution.

Conserve water: Practice sustainable habits like taking shorter showers, collecting rainwater, planting flowers that need less water and turning off the water while you brush your teeth.

Be a responsible pet owner: An unleashed dog can spell disaster for marine animals. Always stay a safe distance away and keep your pet on a leash when marine animals are present. Don't forget to keep a safe distance when photographing them too.

We'd love to see your photos of you taking the actions you've listed! Please share your pledge pics with us on social media. Don't forget to tag us: @ifawuk and include the hashtag #SaveOurSeas. We will share the best ones. Thank you.
